Medication is prescribed by a psychiatrist and/or medical doctor. The clinicians at JCCTA are psychologists and licensed mental health clinicians, such as Licensed Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Psychological Associates. Therefore, they cannot prescribe medication.
What problems do you treat?
Our clinicians are trained to work with children, adolescents, and adults who experience difficulties across multiple areas of functionality. They work with individuals who with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, mood disorders, behavioral problems, social difficulties, learning problems, and histories of trauma and abuse, for example. They also work with families and couples, as is appropriate.
Do you see adults?
While our treatment population consists primarily of individuals age 2 to 25, we also treat adults in therapy. We also conduct comprehensive evaluations with young and middle aged adults and geriatric populations. Contact us to verify availability.
How often does therapy occur?
During the initial stage of treatment, session frequency is typically weekly or biweekly. As progress toward treatment goals is made, session frequency is often decreased. Keep in mind, there is no standard for how often sessions are held. If the providing professional believes your child (or you) would benefit from an alternative schedule, this will be discussed with you.
How long does therapy last?
Just as everyone is unique, the length of time it takes to resolve issues and meet goals in therapy is dependent on the individual. For more specific goals, therapy may be limited to just a few months. However, for more deep seeded issues, like major behavioral problems or emotional instability, longer term treatment may be warranted.
When might I or my child need to be tested?
There are many reasons why you or your child may benefit from being formally evaluated, including to identify specific diagnoses, aid in acquiring mental health, medical, and/or school related services, and provide outside referrals for other treatments. If you are interested in being assessed or having your child evaluated, you may always discuss this with your current treatment provider. Additionally, if it is in the clinical opinion of the treating clinician you or your child be tested, this will be addressed with you.
